For more than 25 years, I’ve looked out my studio window to draw inspiration from nature for my fabric and quilt designs. The changing seasons and the wildlife surrounding our home influence both my color palette and design themes. Robert is a bit of a bird watcher, but more importantly, a bird nurturer. He has numerous bird feeders and houses around our property to attract a variety of birds. Red-headed blackbirds, meadowlarks, barn swallows, bobwhites, and bluebirds gather at the feeders throughout much of the year. Spring brings the return of our pair of geese that nest by the pond, while the hoot of an owl echoes through open windows on quiet summer evenings. In early fall, quail and pheasant dart in and out of the tall grass. We’re constantly amazed and delighted by the abundance of feathered friends right outside our door. I hope Bluebird’s Nest inspires you to create a quilt in shades of blue that celebrates the wonders of nature outside your own window.
